Assessing The Effectiveness Of Solid Waste Management Practices In Quezon City Memorial Circle: Towards Sustainable Waste Reduction Strategies

The aim of the quantitative study was to assess the current Solid Waste Management practices in the Quezon City Memorial Circle and to address the issues and challenges towards sustainable waste reduction strategies that could improve the Solid Waste Management situation in the park, and provide recommendations for improving solid waste practices in Quezon City Memorial Circle. The researchers used Slovin’s formula by considering the recent population report of 370,926 visitors and a margin of error of 0.05 percent with 400 respondents. The researchers used a traditional survey questionnaire that included closed-ended questions to prepare questionnaires, limiting the responses within the scope of the study. The researchers utilized frequency and percentage in describing and analyzing the data on respondents’ demographic profiles, such as age, sex, civil status, residence, and other factors. Frequency represents the number of values in a specific class of a frequency distribution. The findings showed that there is no significant difference in perception of source reduction, recycling, and disposal practices based on age, sex, civil status, residency, or frequency of visits. The study concludes by recommending that QCMC continue to promote its current practices and that the park consider implementing additional initiatives to further reduce waste and promote sustainability.
