Anime “Seichi junrei”, or anime pilgrimage, is an internet slang term that describes a form of film tourism involving the visitation of real-world locations featured in Japanese anime films and shows. Although evident, factors affecting an individual to visit Japan based on their engagement in anime are still yet to be explored. To investigate such a phenomenon, the study employed a descriptive-correlational research design to examine the perception of one hundred ten (110) participants who came from a local university in the Philippines. A self-made questionnaire employing a 4-point Likert scale was used to quantify their responses and was analyzed using Spearman’s correlation and ANOVA. The findings of the study showed a significant positive correlation between the overall level of engagement in Anime and its influence on the respondents to visit Japan in terms of Authenticity, Country Image, and Overall Intention to Visit ..(ρ=0.604, 0.394, and 0.601, respectively) at a 0.001 level of significance. Further investigation of the different aspects of the level of engagement (Time spent, Financial investment, Involvement in Anime events, and Social Connections Within the Anime Community) revealed a significant difference (α=0.05) in time spent when respondents were grouped by gender and age. Additionally, financial investment significantly differed (α=0.05) when respondents were grouped by gender. This study highlights how anime engagement can influence travel behavior. The results of this study could offer significant implications for composing tourism policies and encouraging cultural diplomacy.
